Can only tell you that I am advised to take anti-emetic drugs an hour before my next drugs are due...........may be the same in this case. I suggest you contact your pharmacist for expert advice; oh, and check the "blurb" inside the tablet pack, which will often give you an idea of the most appropriate and effective way to use the drug . Always be aware that what you do might hurt others........and if it could, do nothing without careful consideration of the consequences

Hi Tina, When I first started on Methotrexate it made me feel sick and gave me terrible bad stomache pains. When I went back to clinic they advised me to take it by injection instead, the nurse gave my wife and I a brief lesson on how to do it and the care and control required. I have been doing this now for a number of years and though its not ideal it has worked for me, no more tummy problems.
Hope this helps, John.

Hi Tina, I have the MXT injections at 20mg, recently they have been making me feel sick but not every week, I do them after food and always drink a glass of milk afterwards as I was advised to do by my Rheumy nurse, my gp has given me some anti-sickness tablets, maybe you should check with either your son's gp or Rheumy nurse as to what is the best thing to do love Kimxx

I have recently changed to injections because of the sickness with the tablets and have no problems since.

I changed to the injections and unfortunately for me the nausea didn't go away so I have gone back to tablets particularly as my hair loss increased dramatically whilst on the injections. One thing that was suggested to me by my rheummy nurse with the tablets was to take half at night and the other half the next morning. I would always say it is best to talk to your rheummy nurse with any problems though. Hope you get it sorted for him as it can not be pleasant to be feeling this bad Sallyx

Hi Tina, Sorry that your Son has been actually Sick. I've been on MTX a year and a half and most of the time haven't felt too sick, till recently. Now I dread when MTX day comes around and put off taking it 1-2 days cos I've felt so neausius. Normally take it last thing at night but now wake feeling so sick. Don't think taking it with food has made any difference. I've an app early Feb with my Rheumy Dr so will ask about the anti sick pills you mentioned. It seems quite a big thing to start the Injections! Is your Son experiencing more Flare-ups? My sickness seems to coincide [not sure thats the right spelling] with more active RA. Sorry I can't be of any Help. Hope he feels better soon. Abbie Xx

Hi Abbie,
Your GP will be able to prescribe you the anti-sickness pills. Don't put up with it till February, see your GP.

Thanks Doreen and Jean. I'll book an appointment with my GP tmrw. Since being diagnosed in 2008 i've avoided seeing my GP. On the few occasions i've been to him about RA he's never shown an ounce of care so I've always gone through the hospital. Thanks again and Happy New Year!

Hi Abbie, A stomach protector will help, although of course it is more pills! There are a few natural stomach and liver protectors for mtx; http://www.enaturalremed...ing_and_weight_loss.htm
This is a special tonic type of remedy which will protect naturally. Then there is Milk Thistle which is an excellent liver protector. http://www.vortexhealth.net/milk_thistle.html
It is SO good! Love, Amanda
